Nissan Plans Big Investment in its Sunderland, UK Plant.
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Business Secretary Lord Mandelson welcomed the news that Nissans investment will create 350 new jobs in northeast England. The Sunderland plant will now be a contender to manufacture new and greener electric vehicles. The government has named the northeast region of England as the second Low Carbon Economic Area with a training center that will be the first to specialize in the manufacture and maintenance of ultra-low carbon vehicles. PM Putin took part in the opening of a Nissan plant in St. Petersburg. Visiting the assembly-room, painting and quality control sections, he found himself behind the wheel of the first car off the production line.
