MCN examine new bikes from BMW and Husqvarna that have just been unveiled at the EICMA Milan motorcycle show. One new model unveiled by BMW is the R1200GS Rallye, with the venerable GS receiving cosmetic updates including BMW Motorrad Motorsport paint, a red frame, wire spoked wheels and Enduro Electronic Suspension Adjustment. BMW unveiled another special edition, the G650 GS Sertão, an off-road version of the G650 motorcycle that features a larger 21″ front wheel, longer travel suspension, handguards and knobbly tyres. One of the surprises of the show was the Husqvarna MOAB - a Scrambler concept bike that is fully functional and likely to go into production. The MOAB is powered by a 650cc single and is inspired by the Steve McQueen motocross bikes of the late ’60sand early ’70s, with retro touches incorporated into the great-looking design. Getting a Suzuki DRZ was a huge calculated decision I made. As should any decision be if you’re spending a few thousand. This is my DRZ check list Long rides = NO Short people = NO Top speed = NO Back roads = YES Filtering = YES Ruggedness = YES Cheap parts = YES Performance options = YES The Yamaha XT660X is a bit more suited for motorways. I used an MD80 & an in-helmet microphone for this.
