Five Stars Adult occupant The passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal impact. Dummy readings showed good protection of the knees and femurs of driver and passenger. BMW showed that a similar level of protection would be provided for occupants of different sizes and to those sat in different seating positions. In the side barrier test, the car provided adequate protection for the chest and good protection for other body areas. In the more severe side pole test, dummy readings of rib compression indicated weak protection for the chest area. The front seats and head restraints provided marginal protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision. Child occupant Based on dummy readings in the frontal and side impacts, the 1 Series scored maximum points for protection of the 3 year infant. Forward movement of that dummy in the frontal impact was not excessive and, in the side impact, both dummies were properly contained within the shells of their restraints, minimising the likelihood of dangerous head contacts. A switch is available as an option which allows the passenger airbag to be disabled, allowing a rearward facing restraint to be used in that seating position. Information provided to the driver about the status of the airbag does not meet Euro NCAP’s requirements. The dangers of using a rearward facing seat in that position without disabling the airbag are clearly explained in a permanently-attached label. Pedestrian In all areas …
Peugeot Sport Total scores a double in the Imola 6 Hours Peugeot Sport Total scored a double in the Imola 6 Hours in the third round of the 2011 Le Mans Series repeating their Spa feat. Anthony Davidson and Sébastien Bourdais in the no.7 Peugeot 908 took the flag in front of Stéphane Sarrazin and Franck Montagny in the no.8 Peugeot 908. Marcel Fässler and Timo Bernhard completed the podium in the no. 1 Audi R18 TDI. In LM P1, the Pescarolo Team and Rebellion Racing, on level pegging, still have everything to fight for in the last two events of the Le Mans Series at Silverstone and Estoril. The other wins went to Greaves Motorsport in LM P2, AF Corse in LM GTE Pro, IMSA Performance Matmut in LME GTE Am and JMB Racing in FLM. In many cases it was a question of forgetting Le Mans at the Autodrome Enzo e Dino Ferrari since the start of practice on Friday. The Sarthe event had been a triumph for some and a race to forget for others so everybody was determined to concentrate on the Imola 6 Hours. Anthony Davidson’s pole in no.7 helped Peugeot to put its Sarthe setback behind it. It was the same thing at BMW Motorsport thanks to Jörg Müller in the no. 55 BMW M3. Mathias Beche (TDS Racing) in LM P2 and Patrick Long (Proton Competition) in LM GTE Am set the quickest times. None of the Le Mans winners set the quickest times in any of the categories! During the six-hour event the drivers had to cope with non-stop traffic, but there were no major accidents to upset the unfolding of …

The 26th Thailand International Motor Expo 2009 ended on Sunday evening after eleven busy days at Impact Arena in Muang Thong Thani and was judged an all-round success, a real shot in the arm for the Thai car industry as more than 25000 new cars and light commercial vehicles were ordered during the show. I’m back the very end of its run, the final day seeing the crowds peak as almost a fifth of the show’s sales are booked on this day. There is more than just the myriad of OEM and trade stands in the Challenger Hall as outside enthusiasts gather for owners’ get-togethers and modified, tuned and customised cars create mini light shows while pumping out sounds through a mass of speakers. In the end 25220 cars were sold at the show, beating pre-event estimates by 10000 units. Topping the list of the best-sellers was Japanese giant Toyota which took 7230 bookings, with Honda (4239) a distant second, while Isuzu (2539), Mazda (2277) and Mitsubishi (1518) rounded out the top-five most in-demand. All these are involved in the local car industry and the figures are boosted by sales of pick-up trucks which are very popular here. In sixth place, and the first non-Japanese carmaker, was Korea’s Proton (1388) which doesn’t benefit from either pick-ups or a local base; its new Exora MPV launched at the show accounted for nearly 60 percent of its orders over the last week-and-a-half. European brands fill out only a niche position here due to sky-high import duties, BMW with 415 sales …
