2009 Formula D Round 6 - Locked and Loaded with Falken Tires

falkentire.com Music: No Stars Left in New Jersey by The Stand-ins A cooler climate than expected greeted the competitors at Round 6 of the Formula Drift Championship, held as part of the Indy Grand Prix at Infineon Raceway, but the reception from the crowd was as strong as ever. Team Falken brought all five factory entrants, intent on taking the win, as well as reaching true enthusiasts and motorsports fans at this important double-billed weekend. While all Falken members Darren McNamara, Daijiro Yoshihara, Tyler McQuarrie, Calvin Wan and Vaughn Gittin, Jr. successfully qualified on their Falken Azenis RT615 tires, competition proved tough, and the teams best result was Gittins 7th place overall finish in the ASD built 2010 Falken Tire Ford Mustang GT ultimately being defeated by the events overall winner, Stephan Verdier. Other major Team Falken news of the weekend was the incredible effort put forth on behalf of Yoshihara. Dai qualified 9th in a car that had only two hours of practice time on it, having been built in just nine days after his original Lexus was heavily damaged at the previous event in Seattle. Most competitors were amazed at the speed in which the car was built, thanks in part to SPD Metal Works based in Placentia, CA. Sonoma, famous for its many vineyards, is also notorious for its changing weather conditions, as Fridays Top 32 competition was at least 20-degrees warmer than Saturday. Tyler McQuarrie and his Nissan 350Z felt the heat and ultimately

2009 Formula D Round 1 - Long Beach

falkentire.com Music: Beyond Paranoia by Jon Dal LONG BEACH, CA The inaugural event in the 2009 Formula Drift season began on the famed street course of Long Beach where Team Falken faced a very competitive field of works drivers and privateers and successfully qualified eight cars in the top 32 tandem competition, a new component to Formula D this season. This is the 4th year Formula Drift has competed on the tough track that was previously the domain of open wheel racing. However, the increasing popularity of drifting, especially in Southern California, has prompted its addition to the track for a dedicated weekend. It also was the perfect location for Team Falken to debut its new team which consists of veteran member Vaughn Gittin, Jr., driving his brand new 2010 Ford Mustang; Daijiro Yoshihara in his Discount Tire Lexus IS350; Tyler McQuarrie with his Nissan 350Z Convertible; Calvin Wan, competing in a Nissan S15 Silvia; and Darren McNamara, returning in his Sears Auto Center Saturn Sky. Considering four out of our five team vehicles are completely new builds to our team, we had a very successful first showing, declared Nick Fousekis, Senior Consumer Marketing Manager, Falken Tire. This accomplishment truly is a testament to our drivers skill, our vehicle builders capabilities, the Azenis RT615s performance and Falkens dedication to the sport of drifting. After the final session, overall standings had Gittin, Jr., tied for 6th; McNamara stood in 10th; Yoshihara

Team Falken Sweeps New Jersey

www.falkentire.com Stick around after the credits ;) June 8, 2009 WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ (June 8, 2009) Performance and preparation paid off as Team Falken Tires factory drivers swept the podium at Wall Speedway in Saturday nights round 3 of the 2009 Formula Drift season. Darren McNamara took the top rung in his Saturn Sky; Vaughn Gittin, Jr., earned second with his 2010 Ford Mustang GT; and Tyler McQuarrie finished third, driving his Nissan 350Z. The achievement was historical as this was the first time ever for three Team Falken cars to take the top three positions as well as the first time one team has dominated the podium. Wall Speedway, aptly named “The Gauntlet”, is a 16-degree banked oval along the straightaway with 30 degrees on the turns before moving to the figure 8 infield portion of the course. The capacity crowd witnessed strong competition among Team Falken and other Formula D competitors as skies and rain cleared allowing for ideal door-to-door high speed battles. Five drivers using Falken Azenis RT615 tires advanced to the top 16. In the finals, Gittin, Jr., stood up against McNamara with McNamara ultimately taking the win in a close fought match. Following round 3, Darren advances to first in points in the overall championship, while Gittin, Jr. moves to fifth and Tyler McQuarrie moves forward to seventh place in the standings. Falken Tire would like to thank their drivers, staff, associates and fans for helping make this long standing goal a reality for their

Suzuki Climbs Pikes Peak with a Monster - by Falken Tire

VIDEO COURTESY OF FALKEN TIRE www.youtube.com Ride on the bumper of a screaming 910hp, Twin-Turbo, All-wheel Drive, 150 mph Suzuki SX4 as it races up one of the world’s most dangerous hills. An attempt by the “Monster” to break his own record of 10:01:41… COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (June 29, 2010) — For the fifth consecutive time, Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima combined experience, skill and Falken Tires to claim overall victory in the 88th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Although he did not set a new Pikes Peak record, one day before his 60th birthday, Tajima continues to hold the current overall record for reaching the peak, beating hill climb veterans Paul Dallenbach and Rhys Millen in the Unlimited Class. He drove his new 910-hp Monster Sport Suzuki SX4 Hill Climb Special on Falken WildPeak A/T tires, the powerful new line of all-terrain, all-season tires Falken launched this past April. Following exhaustive tests in a Japanese wind tunnel facility, Monster’s 2010 Pikes Peak race car underwent extensive aerodynamic changes to better adapt to the modified road surface on the race to the clouds, which assumed a smoother tarmac and less gravel than last year. Thinning air ascending the mountain robs most motors of their power by 30 or more percent, but the increase in horsepower over last year’s race car helped push the driver forward.
