Old Volvo 245 VS BMW M5

Old Volvo 245 Swap Supra motor There are few cars on this earth less sexy than the old school Volvo 240 wagon, but for some the family hauler is a classic. Crazy kids around the globe think its boxy shape and staunch safety reputation is cool and this has given the 240 some cult status. But for all its cool value this Swedish brick weighs more than humping elephants so its pretty darn slow even in turbocharged form. So committed modifiers turn to big American V8 motors to drop into the engine bay, but others want something a bit more special. The Volvo 240 in the clip below has been modded with a Supra-sourced 2JZ-GTE engine complete with twin-turbochargers, dual overhead cams and an air-to-air intercooler. The iconic inline six-cylinder engine has turned this family wagon into one of the most deceiving sleepers to ever roll the streets. To prove its prowess and have a bit of fun the Volvo rolls up on an unsuspecting M5 and after a small amount of provocation — it’s on. BMW TwinPower Turbo Engines CGI animation

BMW has released a fancy CGI animation promo for their BMW EfficientDynamics engine family featuring TwinPower Turbo. The video starts off with an android of sorts virtually building an engine. It goes on to demonstrate BMW’s “Perfect Cylinder” combustion via turbo, Valvetronic and direct injection technology. Now this is where things get interesting as the android continues to build a four cylinder engine mounted in a vehicle’s engine bay longitudinally. BMW loyalists might want to look away at this part as the android then takes another 4-cylinder turbo and mounts it transversely. This indicates a front wheel drive vehicle, which BMW has already announced, but not without an apprehensive response from purists. They fear the move will dilute BMW’s ability to make cars with great driving dynamics - a characteristic the BMW brand has become known for. The video continues with the modular engine being expanded to 6-cylinder and then it’s cut in half as a 3-cylinder and fitted to a new smaller vehicle presumably the upcoming i3.

BMW at the Tokyo Motor Show 2007. BMW Hydrogen7.

Soenke Kroll explains how BMW´s long-term EfficientDynamics vision of emissions-free driving can be summed up with one vehicle: the BMW Hydrogen 7. As the world’s first luxury performance sedan with hydrogen drive, it runs on the most plentiful element in the world and emits virtually nothing but water vapor. With its capability of emissions-free driving while running on hydrogen, the BMW Hydrogen7 can drive in London without even paying the London congestion charge. Because the infrastructure for refueling a hydrogen internal combustion engine is not yet complete, the V-12 engine also runs on gasoline at the push of a button. The unique feature of the BMW Hydrogen7 is that it drives on liquid hydrogen, which has a much higher energy desity as if it were in geseous form. The BMW Hydrogen7 is a small series production vehicle of around 100 units prividing the proof-of-concept of BMW´s vision of emissions-free driving. Beyond showcasing the car at international Motor Shows, BMW wants the world’s influencers to see up close, and try for themselves..
