Who’s Killing the Hydrogen Car?

Following is an interview with a scientist, who has proven that dependence on fossil fuels is a choice, not a necessity. Imagine converting all our existing utility vehicles and short run trucks to run on Hydrogen. No fuel cells, no hybrids, no bullshit.

mini mk1 for sale

Rare Austin Mini mk1 for sale. This car has been in a barn for years and needs only rocker sills, a better trunk/boot lid and a good cleaning inside and out to make it ready for paint. Restoration was started years ago and never finished. It comes with boxes of parts, some new, some NOS and the rest are ones removed from the car during restoration. It also comes with a 1098cc engine and tranny as well as the disassembled original 848cc engine and transmission. There are no bumpers included, except for two over-riders. This car is for sale on eBay. Ready for restoration or conversion to a Honda VTEC! This car is an antique yet timeless and way to much fun to drive. I am also listing two doors from a newer Mini that have roll-up windows, and a NOS close ratio laygear to convert the transmission to the Mini-Cooper S spec.

Gav’s EV Conversion 5 - Removing the Clutch

Visit www.EVsecrets.com & grab my new EV Conversion book + video package! Wow, this EV conversion project is turning into a mini series. Next it’ll be “Twin Peaks - Who Killed Laura Palmer’s Electric Car?” :) In this video we’re removing the clutch from the car. A clutch isn’t needed in your average Electric Vehicle as you generally drive around town in one gear all day. If required, you can still change gear easily though as there’s no backpressure from having a big gas engine chugging away aimlessly. There are many EV drivers who swear by keeping the clutch in the car, and many who think it’s unnecessary but once it’s up & running I’ll be the judge of that! It’s my first EV so I’m keeping it simple. No motor+clutch+gearbox adapter makes it nice and simple for a non-mechanic like me. Anyway, we hit a bit of an obstacle trying to remove the clutch by undoing nuts & bolts. The clutch pedal base seems to be a sealed unit. This leaves us little option for removal but getting out a saw…

#4) Project ForkenSwift electric car conversion: it’s legal!

www.ForkenSwift.com - Overdue (but waaaay under budget) the car is now registered as an EV and is legally on the road. Project ForkenSwift is an electric car conversion made using parts from a Suzuki Swift, Geo Metro, Baker electric forklift and a golf cart.

Gav’s EV Conversion 13 - The Control Panel

Visit www.EVsecrets.com & grab my new EV Conversion book + video package! With the racks installed and out of the way I was able to create and install the “Control Box” and Curtis 1231C Controller. I started by ‘Tetrising’ all the components into a metal box I found, and screwed everything down. After that I installed the Controller onto a nice thick plate of aluminium to help remove any heat as apparently they can get hot at times. Then it was a matter of bolting it all down and pre-wiring everything ready for the batteries. I even installed the cool Kill-Switch with a choke cable from an old Mini! Progress is roaring along. My batteries have been ordered and should be installed within a fortnight with luck. The ETA for completion is most likely January-ish! Watch this space!

Gav’s EV Conversion - 25 - Life “Between” EVs

Visit www.EVsecrets.com & grab my new EV Conversion book + video package! Yeehaa! It’s the loudest, biggest epsiode yet with everything from Tahitian sunsets to Rick Astley - and yet it still remains (loosely) based around electric vehicles! Life without the electric car has been tough but hope for KiwiEV 2 gives me strength. I’ve already decided on a donor car and a specific voltage and I’m confident I can wipe the conversion cost of KiwiEV 2 in half, yet still have a great performing EV. While writing my EV conversion book I’ve been researching heaps of cost-cutting ideas and methods for building a good, cheap EV and I’m looking forward to putting them into practice. Call them “EV Secrets” if you like. :) We’re in winter down here in New Zealand which means it’s cold! So cold in fact that I demonstate some sheer cunning, matched with good old fashioned laziness to get around starting cold cars in the morning! Also in this episode you’ll finally get to see what we used the “Unspent Gas Money” on (finally!). Thanks to the money that would have otherwise gone to BP’s profits, we were able to spend 7 nights in paradise. THANKS BP! Hehehe (evil laugh) There’s also three follow up’s on the other converters mentioned in the previous full episode of Gav’s EV Conversion. Adam’s MR2 is roaring along (albeit silently), Richard’s LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) powered Laser is past halfway, and Kearon’s electric Capri (in Australia) is getting media attention. This is by far the
