I bought my '82 1100 E rat from a friend for 100 clams, soaked the carbs in some cleaner, tossed in a fresh battery and voila it started. Smoked like a freight train, but it had sat for 6 years. I ride it ALL the time. It was primary transport during college and the only thing I replaced other than tires/chains was a couple of bulbs. Leaks oil, needs a tune up for sure, but hey it was a 100 bucks... The only time it has left me stranded was of my own idiocy.
