Severn Suzuki speaking at UN Earth Summit 1992
Raised in Vancouver and Toronto, Severn Cullis-Suzuki has been camping and hiking all her life. When she was 9 she started the Environmental Children’s Organization (ECO), a small group of children committed to learning and teaching other kids about environmental issues. They were successful in many projects before 1992, when they raised enough money to go to the UN’s Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Their aim was to remind the decision-makers of who their actions or inactions would …

all I am thinking, after 17 years of this speech nothing tangible happened except the scope increased and now applicable to environment degradation, CO2 emissions, global warming, extinction… “You are what you do,not what you say”… … ….

This is so moving, a child pleading with those who can make a difference to please do something to save the environment, stop greed & to give to those in need.

There are beggars in every country. She just used beggars as an example to be fixed under a label of India and poverty for Brazil. Didn’t matter if she has chosen to say help the beggars in Somalia, it just gets the point across that we (rich, greedy countries) have to help the poor countries or countries with poor people. Im sure as you say India is not full of beggars, but India along with many many other countries are still developing country that needs aide.

Very moving.
Society is sadly controlled by essentially self obsessed evil individuals - the scale of virtual madness is becoming ever more transparent.
Hopefully the tide will turn, it probably will, since those same egocentric nutters will realise they are personally threatened and start to masquerade as Philanthropists.
Every action has a consequence and we are all personally able to make a very real difference by acting in an enviromentally responsible manner

and it was 17 years ago she said all this.
One species is now killing the rest of the life of the beautiful Earth.
Sure we’ll figure out how to save ourselves though.. some of us.. eventually.
Good thing all that matters is the Humans’ lives :eyes:

This speech had such a huge impact on the UN that nothing has changed….possibly gotten worse. Pity.

It’s just cold-hearted and nasty to give innocent babies the rest of this century. It will be clear to any of them who care that their parents knew enough about what was happening to have known what world they gave their child.

if we really want to change, we need to start with our houses, then our community , really if we do that maybe somethings would change, but we will never know, if we never try.

THE GODLESS United Nations…
Veronica - I see the floor in the chamber of the League of Nations, but I do not see faces behind the desks. I see serpents, their tongues lashing out in every direction.
Our Lady - “Where is the godhead in this group? What is their true purpose, as they play with the lives of millions? Liars, sent by the father of all liars! Trust not in the ways of man, but place your full trust in your God.” - Our Lady of the Roses, December 31, 1970

U.N. A BROOD OF VIPERS
“America, you will remove yourself, as a country, from that brood of vipers in your city that has set itself up to govern the world’s peoples and lead them to destruction.” - Our Lady of the Roses, December 7, 1971

not matter who wrote it she delivered it beautifully. It was clear and to the point. yet isnt it amazing that nothings really been done and some might even say something has then how much more have we done to harm our so called environment,
Comment by Irene123H — September 15, 2009 @ 9:26 pm
Wise words, sadly, people aren’t doing anything to follow them, and they never will.
Comment by AyuHime24 — September 15, 2009 @ 9:26 pm
I don’t much care who wrote her speech — it was one heck of an eloquent delivery for a young girl standing before a bunch of government ‘officials’ — and on a good note, 17 years later it’s still drawing attention to these issues! Sadly, those 17 years haven’t seen much progress, but I’m of the mind that people’s attitudes are finally beginning to change for the better.

honestly… i dont see much differences from now…
i wont ever understand why there are children dying with diabetes because of the total ammounts of fat and sugar they eat, and children that die because they have nothing to eat…
