well not really, a gtr in not so good condition can be had as cheap as 400,000yen or around 5,500CAD at the time i write this. but transporting costs at least 1,000$ for RORO. if you bring a bunch of cars over in a container it’s cheaper but risks damage. then there is 14% tax thanks to government, air conditioning fee of 100$, then legalization fees, etc. a 5,000$ car can end up at over 10K. nice cars get more tax. a super clean gtr is worth 15-16k, nismo version is worth more.

Canada= easy as fuck to import cars. Paying much over 12 grand for a gtr r32 is a rip off.

No Skyline can be legalized because there is no Registered Importer to do it - MotoRex WAS the only RI that was able to do it but they went out of business in late 2005. According to NHTSA, the only Skyline eliglble to be imported is the R33 from 1996-1998 or something like that, bu there is no RI to meet all the requirements (DOT, US Customs etc) Any other method not complying with U.S. regulation is considered illegal, including Kit Cars - even if some states allow it, it is not FEDERAL LEGAL.

A stock engine is not a stock car. It doesnt even have a stock engine considering it has some headwork.
Comment by chrisdef15 — January 3, 2010 @ 6:54 pm
really..it depends on what state you live in..if you ship one over here..they put plates in your engine..when i buy one..im taking them out ^^

I hope Obama can change that! hahahahahaha
Though seriously, the standards for cars here in the US suck! In fact, Japan is doing more than the US to help stop global warming. While in America, we come up with ideas but never actually do any of them. Yet we still drive big ass SUV’s but it’s illegal to have skylines. Oh the irony!!!!! lol

are they at Tsukuba Circuit?

stock all jap cars restricted to 180kp/h with fuel cut. part of their laws for new cars, obviously not left that way very long.

the only good thing about my country guatemala is that is not ilegal to have skylines and a GTR R32 cost in my country 16,000$ and if you want it left handed the conversion cost 2,000$
Comment by williaxim — January 3, 2010 @ 6:55 pm
yea. you do need to change some things for the skyline, or you could just get another US license plate and hope you dont get caught. lol

they can pass smog with minimal mods. it depends more on the testing conditions than the car itself. the readings are supposed to be taken shortly after the engine is started, they will pass smog if done like that. they do require some structural mods though to pass impact safety reqs.
Comment by paradoxbox1 — January 3, 2010 @ 6:55 pm
nissan skylines are illegal in the US because they do not meet safety standards. skylines do not have side impact bars and they do not pass smog.
