@animelova11 no just electric. What he said was that this car is not a hybrid since it doesn’t have a petrol motor. Hybrids are expensive though. Think about it. They have two motors. That’s why hybrids never fall from 40 grand.

aww that sucks i mean what if someone is in a really long drive, runs out of energy and needs to immediately charge it but have to wait a shitload amount of time

I live in Slovakia and we have about the same climate as NY City (cold from about november to march). I haven’t heard anybody saying cold would affect the battery life of Leaf so I don’t think this will be a problem. They want to go on US market and half of USA have this climate.
Comment by Nerte85 — February 24, 2010 @ 3:13 pm
Yes, you will be forced to do that.
Of course not, we, EU and US, will have our lefty version
Comment by Nerte85 — February 24, 2010 @ 3:13 pm
True. It was stupid of them to crush the EV1’s.
Comment by brianpomona18 — February 24, 2010 @ 3:13 pm
No. That’s the Chevy Volt. The Nissan Leaf is 100% electric.

210 ft lb torque…very impressive, how does that work exactly
Comment by crazyhasek3921 — February 24, 2010 @ 3:13 pm
They are pooping their pants, they are busy figuring out how to torpedo this thing just like they did the EV1.
They will and have done everything (blurring the lines of legality too) to suppress this technology.

I WANT THIS (drools)
Did they drop the solar panel in the most recent model? I haven’t heard anything about it except for this old video. Would bring the production cost up a lot. (and very inefficient)
It’s a pretty and futuristic looking car too.
Comment by wutdaFU3K — February 24, 2010 @ 3:13 pm
Well I’m not a scientist so I could be wrong but mostly a battery life depends on how cold it is outside, the lower the temparture the lower the battery life is although it’s like 1% every 4 Celsius

and they won’t be broke
Comment by jamessicat25 — February 24, 2010 @ 3:13 pm
just think. IF GM didnt abandon the EV during the 90’s. they could have created a pure electric car that had a range 200 to 300 miles.

Winter battery life affects Li-ion? They’ll probably insulate the battery.
Comment by bravecat100 — February 24, 2010 @ 3:13 pm
new carbon fiber batteries were made at imperial london college, a major breakthrough.
Comment by dvy45 — February 24, 2010 @ 3:13 pm
Well of course this car won’t be out in Canada in 2010, 2 problems will be
1) Our gouvernment will take forever before they invest into creating Charging stations
2) WINTER Battery life goes bye bye
Although I do not own a car yet I really do wish this will be my first car, with the solar panels atleast you won’t be stuck on the highway lol. Cool many features I like especially the How many trees you save feature just for fun, Nissan does some innovated vehicles. Hats off to you Nissan.
