Following in suite with Ford Motor Company that reported a $7,2 billion operating loss for the third quarter of the year, General Motors posted a $4.2 billion third- quarter operating loss and said its available cash fell to $16.2 billion on Sept. 30 from $21 billion at the end of June. GM said that while it will try to boost liquidity, it might fall below the minimum amount of cash (estimated to be around $11 billion to $14 billion) needed to keep the company operating by the end of the year and asked for federal aid.
As the construction of Porsche’s new museum in Stuttgart, Germany comes to an end with only minor work left to be done, the company decided to install the first twelve exhibition vehicles. Porsche said that the relocation of all 80 exhibits that have been safe-kept in an off-premises warehouse in Zwingenberg am Neckar will have been completed by the end of this week. The first exhibits that go on display in the Porsche museum today include, among others, a 356 Cabriolet, an original ‘11′ model and the first prototype of the 924.

European tuners are starting to warm up to the all-new Scirocco as the first examples of VW’s 3door coupe hit the streets. The latest proposal comes from Oettinger that has developed a subtle bodykit that consists of aero flaps for the front splitter, sill extensions and a rear diffuser that incorporates a new set of exhaust tailpipes. The kit is matched with a set of dark-colored lightweight 20-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the German tuning firm has spiced up the Scirocco with carbon-fiber trim accents, stainless steel kick plates, new floor mats and aluminium pedals.

This summer the Boston Transportation Department decided to take action by performing a series of timing adjustments to traffic signals at 60 intersections in the Back Bay and now the results are in. According to officials, before and after studies showed that the red light adjustments resulted in a reduction in traffic delays of up to 29%. Understandably, less traffic also means less fuel wasted and less C02 emissions.

The most eco-friendly model in the Superb line-up will go on sale in the U.K. on Monday, October 13th. Priced at £16,710 OTR, the new Superb Greenline features a 105HP 1.9-liter TDI diesel engine, fitted with a particulate filter, and comes with a five speed manual gearbox. The Czech automaker’s engineers have adopted a number of fuel saving measures that include reducing the weight of the car, making the gearing longer and re-mapping the engine for greater efficiency.
Skoda has just released a special edition version of its Fabia supermini for the UK market. Called Blueline, the Czech supermini comes with a unique Pacific Blue paint combined with a white roof, 15-inch alloy wheels and a lower suspension. Interior features over the standard Fabia 2 include ‘Magic’ upholstery, climate control air conditioning, glasses storage compartment and storage boxes under front seats. The Fabia Blueline is available with a 70HP 1.2-liter petrol engine and an a 80Hp 1.4-liter turbo diesel with prices set £9,990 and £11,450 respectively.

According to the Spanish automaker, all UK market Exeos will feature cruise control, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, dual zone climate control, USB connectivity (allowing MP3 music players to be used in-car) and alloy wheels as standard.
