(4.23.11) Mazda kicks off our journey into the world of high tech high design and high style concept cars with their “Minagi” concept. Over in this corner at the New York International Auto Show is the Toyota Prius C concept. The Prius C is marketed as a city-centric hybrid vehicle designed to appeal to young singles and couples who want an eco-sensitive, high-mileage fun to drive car. Spacious interior in a compact package means high urban appeal how you like that New York! And howya like this - the Volkswagen Bulli. A concept car both cute and oh so cool. VW says it’s the latest evolution of the iconic microbus and reveals it’s powered by an electric motor fitted with six-seat and infotainment control via IPAD! The Cadillac Urban Luxury Concept might catch your eye too. The company says it was conceived for city-dwellers in urban centers like New York where tight confined parking areas for apartments and office buildings are the norm. It seats four with scissor-type doors, powered by a turbocharged one liter three cylinder engine projected to deliver up to 65 miles per gallon. More stylin’ concept cars not to be missed at this year’s New York International Auto Show - the Dodge Charger SRT8. The GMC Sierra All Terrain HD 6.6 liter Duramax turbo diesel V8 heavy-duty truck. And the racing inspired Scion FR-S concept. It looks like it’s moving — when it’s just standing still!

Buick Reveals the Latest in Automotive Infotainment Systems In today’s fast paced world of social media and instant entertainment, having access to phones and PDAs at all times has become essential. At the 2011 New York Auto Show, staying connected while driving continues to be a growing trend for the auto industry as several automakers unveiled their versions of in-vehicle information systems. With hopes of taking infotainment to the next level, Buick announced IntelliLink. The new system uses Bluetooth or USB to connect the driver’s smartphone to a 7- or 8-inch, high resolution, full-color touch screen display radio. Expanding on the current capabilities, it allows smartphone control via voice activation and steering wheel-mounted controls. It can also stream music from the phone through services like Pandora radio and Stitcher SmartRadi, as well as identify the driver’s music collection from services like Gracenote. As a bonus, everything is voice controlled, meaning, you can keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. IntelliLink will come standard in 2012 on Buick’s Regal, LaCrosse and Verano and all models in 2013.
